Preserving Alpha Channel for FCP?
on Jan 12, 2011 at 8:05:16 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to use a logo, made by our graphic artist in Final Cut, only when I go to it has a white background. When I view it in Photoshop I can see through to the checkered background, so I am assuming the alpha channel is present.

I've tried re-saving it and that causes the background to turn black.

The PSD is a school logo with only has one layer.

Any idea what I need to do to be able to use the logo and still get the alpha channel, or where the problem might lay?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure the logo is in RGB mode (in Photoshop)

Try, in FCP. with the image selected in your timeline, go to Modify>Alpha TYpe and see if it's set to none/ignore. If so, change that setting.

If that doesn't work, let us know.

C.R.

Yup!

RGB Mode did the trick.

Thanks!

For future reference RGB mode is effective because CMYK is not detectable by FCP.

Hope that helps.
