Photos in Photoshop CS6 become desaturated...
on May 17, 2015 at 7:47:21 pm

Hey folks!

I've been working with images in photoshop and I've noticed this desaturation thing going on with the colors when files are brought into photoshop. I've seen this be attributed to color space settings, but I can't find where I'm going wrong. Attached is a screenshot showing what images look like just opened from location vs what they look like in photoshop. Also attached is an edited photo that now looks super saturated outside photoshop because I relied on the colors as presented within PS.

Any help? Thanks!

Well, couple things. First off, Windows Photo Viewer doesn't use color profiles to view images; it ignores them (same as web browser). Next, set the working space to something more versatile for photos like Adobe 1998 or a similar wide gamut rgb. Stay away from srgb as this is a sort of narrow gamut rgb used for monitors. What you are seeing looks like what one would see going from a wide to a narrow rgb.

Save early. Save often.
