How to smooth over these joins... any tricks you know of?
on Nov 13, 2013 at 9:08:07 pm

Hi guys,

If you'll look at my document here, you'll see that I am trying to create a facemap for a 3D mesh head. This is a texture that is to "wrap around" the front of my polygon mesh.

This facemap, as you can see, is made up of four separate photographs of a man's face. My goal is to make the joins seamless between the four photographs.

If you had this challenge, what Photoshop tricks would you use to make the joins absolutely seamless?

There are differences in color, tonality and texture. Any ideas?

Thanks, David Lincoln Brooks

I'm a big fan of a judicious use of Smudge and Clone. Go light and take your time.

First thing i usually do is make a curves layer clipped to a specific layer, play around with it until the edge is even, and then feather the seam.

After that I'd probably start making some texture plates in monochrome, blend them in and use them to cover up the transitions and smooth out the texture below.

A few more ideas: I always try the healing brush first, I think it would work great. Another useful thing is using the brush tool in "hue" or "color" mode, to paint the color from one side of the seam onto the pixels on the other side--something like that would work great on the forehead seam where the textures are the same but the color is different.
