I am editing a quicktime video in CS3 Extended. I have converted the video to Lab color mode and I am trying to apply a filter to a single channel (blurring the b* channel). I need to be able to repeat these actions for a lot of separate video files so I am ideally looking for actions that I can later automate.
I understand that the only way to apply a filter to all frames of the video is to convert the video to a Smart Object and apply a Smart Filter. Unfortunately, when I apply any Smart Filter with just a single channel selected, the filter is applied to all channels.
1. Is there a way to restrict the impact of a Smart Filter to a single channel?
2. Is there anything in CS4 that would allow me to do this?
3. Does anyone know of a way to work in Lab color (or construct the Lab channels) in any other piece of software eg. AE, Combustion, Shake, Fusion...
4. If there's no straightforward option, is it possible (in an automatable way) to deconstruct the L, a* and b* channels in to separate layers, run filters on just those layers and then reconstruct the image from those layers?
