Saving history & layers

How does one save the history and layer info on an image. I'm half way through working on a picture and want to save all the operations in those palettes so I'll be able to open that image later and continue to work on it or change past operations.

Each time I save the image as an original or copy, doesn't seem to matter, the history palette is not saved.

Haven't figured out how to save the image properly I guess?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks HZ

History is stored in RAM... not with document...

You can save several versions.. but thats about it.

You can save History Log for information... but thats just information

You might look to incorpoate Smart Objects into your workflow
