Does anyone have any tips on making a website primarily in photoshop?
on Dec 8, 2005 at 6:49:58 pm

Hi there,

Basically Im having a problem making a website where i am primarily making it in Photoshop/ImageReady and using dreamweaver mainly for links and uploading. If you go to http://www.erinbarry.co.uk you can see the beginnings of my site and hopefully understand the problem. The only working link is Portraits, so if you go there you can see that when you click on a photo, the rest of the thumbnails dont work on the next page. Basically Im making every single image as a different webpage because I dont want to use frames. This however means that for every image i am having to redo the links for every thumbnail....does that make sense?

I was just wondering if anyone knows anyway of making the links fixed for all the pages in imageready or dreamweaver? Its very time consuming at the moment! Maybe I should just use frames...but i find them limiting.

Anyway hope that someone can help!

Cheers

Dan

Sounds like a job for Adobe GoLive. Check out the options for using "Components." They are like mini webpages that can be inserted into other web pages. When you update the component, all the rest of the page that contain the component get updated automatically.

By the way, components are not the same as frames.

These changes are very time consuming to manipulate in Photoshop/IR. You may want to check out a bunch of books to learn some HTML.

PS - your site is looking pretty cool.

Have you checked out "Sitegrinder"?

http://www.medialab.com/sitegrinder/

It uses Photoshop for the whole design.

sitegrinder?

Hello Jim,

Thats a really amazing plug-in... I got the demo version from the site, and I have zero knowledge on html, but I was able to make some buttons with mouse over in less then 5 minutes.

have you used this software before? I was trying to make custom shape buttons and apparently it has to be rectangles...is it possible to make custom shaped buttons with the plug-in? I can draw any shape, but it places it inside a rectangle and in the end some parts that are outside the button can be clicked too...any solutions for that? hope it makes sense..

thanks

renato

Sorry, but no, I haven't used Sitegrinder myself. I came across it a while ago when I was looking into web design software and it seemed like a great program. I still haven't gotten into web design so I have nothing to compare it to.

Good luck, Jim

How about just using one of the pages as a template and then duplicate it and swap out the picture? For example, take this page "http://www.erinbarry.co.uk/Portrait%20pages/lady.htm" and duplicate it. Then change the featured photo to another one and rename the page.

If I understand your problem correctly, that should take care of it.
