quick question

hey guys i'm a digital editor and i have to make a quick background in photoshop...
this is really basic but it's driving me nuts...

i have two images on top of each other...
think about two square pictures one is the background the other is smaller and on top.

is there an easy way to merge the two pictures so there is no seam between the two ?

sort of like a nice fading effect ? but just on the edge ?

i hope that i don't insult anyone with such an easy question...

thanks so much

To soften the eraser edges, use Shift [ (or in other glyphs) {
