I am trying to create a droplet that will enable be to cut and paste a particular file into many files. The problem I'm having is that the action records "select previous document/copy/select new document/paste" - which is all fine when only doing one document at a time...but when doing hundreds, and using a droplet...it won't work! If I try to do a batch automate, it always copy/pastes one of the hundreds of files, instead of the specific file I want.

How do I create a droplet that adds a specific file as a layer?

Try this. Take the image that you want to paste in all the hundreds of documents you have. open it and copy it your clip board. Close and write your script, but write it with only the paste command in the script.

Now run your script and see what you get. As long as the image you want is copied to the clip board, you should be fine.

Or try using File > Place
