Importing RED Source Settings from Premiere to After Effects

I have an edit in Premiere consisting of R3D files. I've used the RED Source Settings in Premiere to adjust the color. When I right click > Replace With After Effects Composition, the RED Source Settings are reset in After Effects. How do I get the RED Source Settings to translate from Premiere to After Effects?

Are you saying the color correction effect doesn't migrate over with the clip, or that it does but the effect resets to its default? NOT all color correction effects migrate over to AE. If you are using Lumetri then it will and the settings should move over as well. They do for me.

Maybe bake that in RCX instead.

Thanks guys. Stephen I'm not using a color correction "effect" per se. I'm using the RED Source Settings panel that appears in Premiere when editing R3D files to adjust color. Those settings do not translate over to After Effects when I click Replace With After Effects Composition.

Eric I've never used RCX, but when you say "bake" are you saying that if I color correct in RCX those settings are baked into the metadata and should translate to Premiere and AE? Or when you say bake do you mean render out a new video file from RCX after coloring? Because I would much rather change metadata than deal with rendering, re-encoding, etc.

Check out Lumetri, it allows you to apply Luts and is almost all of the other color tools rolled into 1 effect. It should be able to do everything you want. As for RCX, you will have to export out a new movie file.

Yes RCX should be in your workflow at all times.
its the best app for prepping all R3Ds (and only R3Ds).
I do firstlight in there as well as audio sync and even go as far as edits (cut the fat).
You will need to save the RMDs at all times.
The steps are easy, open folder then drag clips into Project.
Save the project (or not, your call) and also save the RMDs as you make changes.
There are nice LOOKs you can save and apply as well as LUTs.
Once you have them all saved then import into any app that supports R3Ds.
I tend to go back and forth to RCX and sometimes use it as go-between certain apps.

Well that sounds like the ticket to me. Thanks Eric!

Keep in mind that its not always a proven science.

I would always start at RCX and save the RMDs before moving on.

There are times when I tried to do this backwards and it bit me in the @$$ :P
