maybe I am wrong. But if the resolution of a lens is about 2.000 lines for full format. Doesn`t this mean the lens cannot resolve more than 2.000 lines (or pixel lines)?
The Epic sensor is much smaller than full format. Doesn`t this mean it gets only a part of the resolution for full format?
Are there any test charts to proof your or my statement?
[Charles Binn]" But if the resolution of a lens is about 2.000 lines for full format."
I have never heard of a lens that can truly resolve at that high a resolution, most resolution charts do not exceed 300 or 600 lines per inch. Most lenses are designed with a much more conservative attitude towards resolution of less than 200 LPI
The MTF issues would be much more of an issue than pure resolution at that level, as would be lens aberrations, color of the specific wavelengths of light used, sensor resolution and relative Nyquist adaptation based on size of the actual photosites per individual sensor.
