I need tips on which hardware to choose for editing red epic footage
on Jun 13, 2013 at 9:38:20 pm

Hello folks!

I have a newly established movie company in Norway. I have been working with both film and photo for some years beside my other job, mainly been shooting with dslrs like the new canon 5d mark III. I am now used to both final cut pro and x and the adobe suite, especially since it can edit dslr natively. The 2010 macbook pro handles my dslr footage, but now I have made a big investment and a red epic is soon in my hands.

I know that a new mac pro will be coming this fall, but I need new hardware now. I like mac osx and would like to continue using it, so my options are a mac pro or a hackintosh.
I have considered these two options:

1)Mac pro
2 x 2,4 GHz sekskjerners (12 cores) Intel Xeon E5645-prosessorer
16 GB Ram
512 SSD
1000 GB
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5
18x SuperDrive

2)Hackintosh
Processor: Intel 3930K 6 Core 3.2GHz CPUMotherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 - 8 x DDR3 Slots, 4 x SATA 6GB/S Ports, Socket 2011
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 Windforce Overclocked Edition
Memory: 16GB Corsair Vengeance - 2 x 8GB
Storage: OCZ Vertez 4 SSD - 3 x 128GB
Power Supply: NZXT Hale90(White) 80 Plus Gold Modular cables - 1000WCPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Hydro Series Extreme Performance liquid cooler
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower (White & Blue L.E.D)Operating System: (Dual Boot) Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.3
Bluetooth Adapter: IOGEAR Bluetooth 4.0 USB (GBU521)

Sorry about the color changes, I used copy and paste.

I know that hackintosh is cheaper when buying new stuff, but in my case, I get both this options for the same price.
What do you think?
What should I go for?
If buy the new mac pro, I think i will get most from selling a mac pro than a hackintosh.
I will no matter what have 1 ssd for os and a 6tb raid O.

Thank you for replies

Best Regards,
