RED CINE X slow transcode

Hi - transcoding EPIC-X footage to ProRes 422 (1080).

I am really surprised to find that Red Cine X encode takes over TWICE as much time as regular FCP 7 Log and Transfer (1 minute clip: 10mins encoding time on FCP, 24 mins encoding time on RCX)

From what I've read and heard Red Cine X is supposed to be faster, right? Any ideas please? (I have Redline [software only] enabled).

Red makes you shell out another 5 grand for the Red Rocket card if you want faster speeds. Best to do all your color correction filling the bin as you go. Then at the end of the day transcode everything in the bin overnight.

In software only mode, remember that you can also transcode multiple files at once. If your disks can handle the throughput then this is a common way of speeding the process up as a whole.

With regards to FCP log and transfer vs. Red Cine. FCP Log and transfer only outputs at half res vs. Red Cine which is likely full res. This would account for the time differences between the two.
