I'm doing a job that's shooting on the Epic. The deliverable is a DPX 10 bit sequence at 1080p.

I'm cutting on FPC7 and will be using ProRes. What's the easiest way to create the DPX? Is conforming with the r3d files necessary?

Is the DPX sequence to be color graded?
VFX?

1. You can create a DPX straight out of FCP 7 with third party tools.
2. Create an XML of the sequence. open in Redcine X and export DPX files from there.
3. Create prores 4444 from FCP 7. open in FCP X, EXPORT DPX IMAGE SEQUENCE from FCP X

Number 2 is the best quality.
3 and 1 are secondary choices and will not be as high quality as going from source material.

I think this is the right way. You can use Redcine to convert R3D to ProRes mov files for editing. Then send to XML back to Redcine and get DPX.
