best display screens for viewing red footage
on Nov 23, 2012 at 4:22:51 pm

Hi,

I need help regarding choosing best (high-end) display screens for a new video editing suit. Most of footage will be form red cameras. There will be a SONY OLED monitor for color grading.

The issue:

I was going to get two 24" HP Dreamcolor screens, however I found that some people faced serious problems with Quadro 4000 for MAC.

The workstation will be used also for editing high-quality photos.

Here is the system specifications:
- MAC PRO 12 Core - 3.06 processor
- Quadro 4000 MAC
- 32 MB of RAM

Software:
Adobe Primer CS6, After Effect, Photoshop, illustrator.
Davinci Resolve 9.

So please guide me for the best best high-end alternative for Dreamcolor monitors, which is (((compatible))) with my system (open budget).

Thanks,
Abdulla

Eizo Coloredge or NEC. If you need cinema delivery then look at Dolby.

Thank you Sareesh,

I really liked the EIZO CG276.

Just I want to know if it's working well with quadro 4000 for MAC.

Thanks again,
Abdulla

Yes it will work. I prefer ATI Firepro for monitoring over Quadro.

Thank you again Sareesh,

I'll keep the ATI card in the work station with the Quadro 4000.

Thanks a lot,
Abdulla

Dell U2711 for cheap.
I use that on a Mac Pro w/Quadro 4000.
The other is Apple Cinema 30s, but they are extinct.
We use them with the Avid/Resolve systems.
If you cant find the 30s then I suggest going with the Dells.
They are honestly great monitors for the Mac.

I would strongly recommend Dell over Apple if you're going for a monitor in that price range. Despite excellent image quality, the Apple monitors are without doubt the least ergonomic, overpriced monitors I've ever used. A serious case of style over function. I've always enjoyed using Dell.

I can't speak from first hand experience with the Dreamcolor or Eizo (I'm sure they're wonderful), but if you're monitoring via a Sony OLED then are you sure you need something that high-end for your NLE interface and emails...? If price is really no object then go for it, but the Dreamcolor tends to be used by video people in place of a grade-1 reference monitor because it's nearly as good. You already have the reference monitor though.
