Merging .R3D files into one
on Apr 10, 2012 at 1:03:13 am

Right now I am handing RAW Red files off to my VFX person. With those files we have set frame numbers for the segments that need VFX editing. Clips that are broken up into multiple RED files have become a problem because the frame number is reset for each different clip. Any way to merge these clips into one RAW .R3D file? Or perhaps suggest an alternate workflow to work around this problem...

Thanks.

Try by folder- you can't make new R3D files.

There is no way to create a single R3D file from multiple R3D files.

My suggestion would be to create a separate VFX sequence containing only the VFX shots in place in the timeline.

I would then create and XML file.

That XML can be opened in REDCINE X

You can then export the timeline from REDCINE X with 1 second handles and use the TRIM R#D function in RECINE X.

If ou hand the XML and the trimmed R3D folder to your VFX house they should be able to take it from there.

If you hand them the R3D folders with just the XML they should have no problem extracting the shots.
