Color Space of Epic Files

Hello,

I'm going to be color correcting Red Epic files, and I couldn't seem to find any documentation on the Red website as to the specifics of the file. I'm assuming they are collecting enough information for 444, not 422? In addition, if there is any other color information in a PDF doc of something like that, it would be appreciated if someone could post a link.

Thanks!

Okay, I downloaded RedCineX, and I'm looking at the metadata of the EpicM 3840x2160 file. I'm not sure where it would say the color though, if I am getting the equivalent of 444 or if it's 422.

Any one familiar with this?

It's raw.

The color space and bit depth is determined by the file you extract from the raw.

A DPX file will be different from a progress 422 or Prores 444.

Red has there own coloR space selections

Redcolor
Red color 2
Red color 3

And gamma space

Red gamma 2 and 3
Redlogfilm

Like Dave said, its RAW, you make it what you want. As long as you get the exposure right (and even that has 2-3 stops wiggle room) you can export the files into what ever colorspace you want.

Color space and gamma settings are things I'm still trying to learn about, but not having to make the decision on shoot day is a relief to me!
