RED with no QT wrapper files
on Jan 11, 2012 at 11:30:20 pm

I received a drive that had two folders of RED footage. One for A-camera and one for B-camera. I used RED Cine-X to transcode the footage to ProRes422 to edit in FCP. A-camera was fine. I tried to load the B-camera into the Bin and apply settings for export, but it says that it "failed to open file" and the thumbnail is black with a red "X" on it. I looked in the folder and the B-camera footage doesn't have any of the usual 4 QT files inside each clip folder for some reason. Only the raw RED files.

How can I get those files transcoded without it? Is it possible?

Why would they be missing?

Thanks in advance,
Eddie

Quite possible those are Epic (or Scarlet?) files.

Make sure you have the very latest version of RCX.

You can transcode the files from RCXPro.

You can also generate new Quicktime files in the RCXPro export dialog box. There is a setting in there that allows you to generate QT proxy files.

The EPIC no longer generates QT proxie files and many people turn this off on the R1MX as well.

They are easily regenerated and you can always render the R3D from RCX Pro to any codec you want.

Is that the Red Cine-X Build 506? I thought I had the latest, but didn't see on the site anything labeled "Pro".

It's actually BUILD 10 right now.

Here are the links:

I'd go with the first link. It's the most up to date.
