Red continues to drag the industry kicking and screaming into the future. Canon, in contrast, seems only interested in holding us back - "The industry isn't ready for 4k". WTF?
While I, like many, feel a little disappointed in the restricted frame rates, we have to bear in mind that what we complain is missing didn't exist before Epic. For under $10k this camera is a decision already made.
I also thought that Canon as such a potential DLSR developer presents more as they did. In comparision the scarlet really looks fine - but just in comparision. Remember what enormous range of Scarlet modells RED announced. But I'm still extremly excited to a hopefully soon delivery of my EPIC.
Scarlet will do what the Red One does now in terms of resolution and frame rates (4k @ 30 FPS). Plus it will shoot 5K, but only at 12FPS. Remember though it has HDRX (high dymanic range) options and the size of the camera is great !
One reason not to get the scarlte is that it does not have a DTE (direct to edit) option at this time. YOu shoot in a file - R3D and have to transcode to most edit systems.
