Redcine-X and Crimson. How do I do it?
on May 23, 2011 at 8:18:50 pm

Hello.

I´ve exported all my 4K footage from redcine-X to prores files that i´ve used in FCP.
In FCP I exported a XML that I loaded in to Crimson. From Crimson I exported a Redcine XML. This is where my skills stops.

I try to import->fcp xml in to redcine-X. But nothing happends. Crimson tells me to "self.project->load all" But I can´t find this option in redcine-x. I want to relink all the material, and grade it in color.

How do I do this?

Help much appriciated since the musicvideo has to be done in a few days!!!

Paal.

Crimson hasn't been developed in a while. Get Storm or use Clipfinder – it hasn't been further developed either, but still does what you need.

Why not bypass crimson altogether and just use the FCP to REDCINE- X Workflow.

Hi. Thanks for your reply!

Shure. Why not? I "import->FCP xml" right? A lot of clips shows up in the bin window. But what do I do from there?

Paal.

If you want to grade teh material in apple Color then you do not need RCX at all.

You need a program called clipfinder.

I can not give you a tutorial but the steps are:

export FCP XML
open in clipfinder and create an NEW XML that links to r3d media instead of the "offline"
open new XML in NEW FCP project

send the sequence to color
Grade the material in color directly from R3D media.
Render graded material in Apple Color to output codec of your choice.
Send back to FCP for output.

Paal. This is no simple, quick and easy solution. These are just the steps and there are things you must do along the way to make it work. You will need an understanding of XML, relinking, and there are many steps but this process works well and I use it daily.

Hope this helps.
