Converting RED 2k & 4K F proxy files to 1080 ProRes HQ?
on May 14, 2011 at 6:58:12 am

Hello,

Seems I might be stuck with a mis-media managed RED job with just the F proxy files not the original R3D folders or even properly transcoded ProRes HQ 1920x1080 clips to use in Color. I want to know if it is an ok solution to convert these RED 2k & 4K F proxy files to 1080 ProRes HQ in Compressor in order to grade with in Color?

It seems all the clips rendered out from my compressor cluster successfully but I know this is by no means a suggested workflow...i dont have much choice in that the R3D's cant get to me in time and the color work just needs to get done this weekend.

any advice or suggestions?
thanks
sean

The proxies without original R3Ds are nothing! They are really pointers, not proxies in the usual sense.

If you have ProRes versions, you should be able to connect them. Try Clipfinder, even if it's outdated in some aspects, it should be able to do that.

If you don't even have the ProRes files, tell the producer they f…d it up big way!
