I will be shooting a short film in a couple months and my DP wants to use the RED camera. I am the director but also the editor and wanted to know if anyone could confirm my post workflow is set up properly or perhaps could offer some better suggestions. I would greatly appreciate any help :)
This is what I have planned:
have RED footage on external harddrives (any suggestions??)
capture into my FCP 6.0, which is on my iMAC (2.4GHz Intel w/1GB memory) using REDCINE-X download and bringing in ProRes format.
Final product - DVDs, HDCAM, DVCAM
Using ProRes 422 HQ, transcoded by RCX, you'll be fine with FCP 6. Anything else will need FCS 3.
Harddisks? Anything reliable, and at least two physically independent copies, that's all (three are better). As long as you don't do anything fancy, just hard cuts and the occasional dissolve, you won't need more than ordinary harddisk, preferably FW 800.
And never rename anything inside the folders from the RED One, if you plan for an offline/online workflow.
