Red Rocket card in a Macbook Pro?
on Jan 31, 2011 at 6:46:56 pm

Hi,

I've been asked to transcode on set so I'm looking to hiring a system with the red rocket card. I've found a place that rents out the RR card in a PCI enclosure so that it'll fit into a Macbook Pro. Will this still transcode in real time?

Not in my 17" MBP, but it's still wicked fast. I brought our RR in a MaxxDigital PCI enclosure to almost every shoot last year and was very glad to have it.

Yeah I'd long for a full blown Mac Pro Red Rocket system on a cart any day of the week.

Agreed. Sadly for us, we haven't had a single shoot in the past 12 months where that was feasible. The MBP, especially the 17" one with 4 cores, does a good job if you have to stay portable.
