Does Clipfinder Support MX Color?
on Dec 1, 2010 at 10:30:04 pm

With the new colorspaces that have come with the MX sensor, I've seen many programs not be MX compatible. For example, if you open MX files in QuickTime, it looks awful. Open it in REDCINE-X and you have happiness again.

So does Clipfinder support the MX color science? We stopped using it when we got our first REDROCKET. Then they started charging for it. So I don't know what the latest is with it.

Thanks,

Russ

From CF 2.5B3 here's the color controls:

Color Spaces:

Gamma Settings:

Hope that helps.

Having REDColor and REDGamma are signs that it does. Does a RED file look much more natural in Clipfinder than it does if you open a proxy file in QT?

Just curious:)

For sure. Proxies look cold, Clipfinder looks like it should. Sorry, I came in after the new color science, so I don't know the difference between old and new.

I figured the presence of flut, RColor and RGamma would say that yes, it does support the newer science, but I'm not 100% sure.

Sounds like it's good to go. I'll have to play with it again, especially with the conforming FCP projects. Wonder if it supports the REDRocket or if it can be used to conform, then create a REDCINE-X project to render. Looks like it's time to play. Thanks for looking at this. Sounds like you're liking the whole RED thing. EPICs are going to freaking rock!

[Russell Lasson] "I'll have to play with it again, especially with the conforming FCP projects. "

In my short use, it really is a dream when it comes to conform, and the reason to pay for it.

I made proxies in redcinex, edit and conform in CF for FCP/Color.

[Russell Lasson] "Wonder if it supports the REDRocket "

That I don't know. Don't have one yet! :) I know he was working on it (which is one of the reasons he started to charge for the application).

[Russell Lasson] "then create a REDCINE-X project to render"

It does have a send to RedCineX feature, but I don't know if it works with the latest RCX builds. I haven't tested that far yet as my projects are still being worked on, plus a fine tune cc is no good for me in RedCineX without a monitor (Rocket), so I'm stuck with Color for a finish for now.

[Russell Lasson] "Sounds like you're liking the whole RED thing. "

Yeah, it's going pretty well as I'm getting my feet wet. I must say I am very impressed with the whole system. It's really really slow without a Rocket, but I have to start somewhere. Thank you for your help as well.

Jeremy

[Jeremy Garchow] "It's really really slow without a Rocket,"

Yes. Yes it is. But it's what you have to go through so that someday you can say, "I remember the day when one render took 4 months to finish!"
