red newbie question
on Oct 15, 2010 at 2:54:11 pm

Hi all im a newbie red user editing a job which will be handed over to another guy to grade in color. im currently converting my 4k files in REDrushes, i have been informed to Resize to 2048 x 1152 Apple Pro res HQ. This i have done and i have been editing in fcp but i have noticed playback issues so i decided to go back to redrushes and convert some clips again using the standard Pro res 1920 x 1080, and all is good. my question is besides the frame size being larger whats the major benifit of going down the first route ie ''2048 x 1152 Apple Pro res HQ'' rather than making my life easy and going Pro res 1920 x 1080? Thanks Emmet

I hope it's HD broadcast at least…

But 2K doesn't make much sense in that case, you can always go 1920 by 1080. If you didn't shoot Quad HD, your transcoding times might be a bit longer, though.
