Jim Jannard did a big Q&A about RED's general status last night. Here are some highlights:
He now says the company has overcome the major bug that had kept the EPIC and Scarlet back.
At least the 5K-capable EPIC will be made in the US.
Scarlet will still follow sometime after EPIC, but it should follow sometime later- hopefully by the end of 2010. Working prototypes already exist.
The very highest resolution version of EPIC, with an extra-large 28K sensor, now isn't due to ship until late 2011 or early 2012 as a result of the ripple effect.
The cameras have been heavily delayed since their originally planned early 2009 launches. Filmmakers are currently getting access to upgraded RED ONE cameras as part of the Tattoo testing program that use the newer EPIC-X sensor in the existing body.
So basically if you were hoping to shoot anything beyond a sensor upgraded RED ONE for the foreseeable future you need to be patient. More details here:
