Red Footage not recognized by FCP. Please Help!!!
on Feb 11, 2010 at 12:04:11 am

I am trying to ingest my Red Footage into FCP 6.0.6 using Log and Transfer. I have downloaded the QT codec, and the FCS 2 installer. I have read the white paper. I am able to open Log and Transfer and click the preferences to select Red to ProRes(HQ), but when I try to add something the files are greyed out and FCP says

"The File contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."

I can open the files in QT, Red Alert, and Clipfinder.

Any thoughts on why this is happening and how to fix it?

Are you ingesting from a full RED magazine folder? Be sure to read through the White Paper that comes with the L&T plugin from RED carefully. Also make sure you're running the latest OS and QuickTime updates. If all else fails you might need to do a fresh install of FCP.

Hi Danny,

This is the error message that appears when you select the wrong folder to import. Are you pointing FCP to the .RDM folder?

I'm assuming the original file structure of all the clips is intact.

All the best,

Make sure there are no non-ASCII characters in your file path.
