transcoding via Red Rushes on G4?
on Feb 5, 2010 at 10:11:28 pm

Hi
I'd like to put my unused G4 to work transcoding Red footage via Red Rushes, while I perform cutting work on FCP6/Mac Pro quad. Is it possible to install Red Rushes software on the G4 and just do the transcoding there, then copy the .mov files to my quad? Thanks.

Depends what you want to transcode to. ProRes cannot be encoded on a G4. And any other format is likely to take years on that machine if RedRushes even installs which I'm not sure it would. Use the G4 to play your music instead...

This reminds me of my G4 at home that must be destroyed. Not even worth of the corner where it is.

Mine ( the beautiful G4 "lamp" )is working as a videorecorder, even for HDTV and distributing it in the home. It can't play HDTV, but record it just fine …

Thanks Noah! I will look into it. Sounds fun but not with the G4, instead I'll use my other paper weight: A first generation 2.0GHZ G5.
