Cropping w/ Color softening solution?
on Dec 30, 2009 at 10:14:03 pm

I'm editing a piece shot at 4KHD for 720P output. Some of the shots I need to crop/zoom 150%. I'm getting bad results from Color, and this article http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/awilt/story/redfcpcolor_making_it_al... (and other things I have read) says it has to do with how Color sharpens and decodes the RED file.

I can't think of a good workaround, other than exporting full frame from Color at 4K ProRes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

WHy not relink the full frame r3d's in the FCP timeline and do teh blowup from the F proxy in Final Cut Pro (assuming you are working with FCS 3)

That's what I'm doing currently. But if I do the blowup in FCP, then send to Color, Color references the R3D and applies the FCP basic motion blow up in it's "Geometry." Thus the cropping is done in Color.

If you don't need to keyframe the cropping/scaling, why not do it Clipfinder and use ProRes 4444?
