3K footage in FCP
on Dec 11, 2009 at 10:50:43 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm helping out with some RED footage and we've run into a problem. Some of the clips were shot at 4K, and these are importing, through Final Cut Pro's Log and Transfer function, at a 2K resolution, which is what we want. Some of them were shot at 3K and these are importing at 3K instead of resizing to 2K. The problem is that it's not possible to real-time edit these 3K files. I've been looking for answers and all I find is that "3K media is not supported by Final Cut Pro's real time effects". So how are we supposed to work with these files in FCP? Is there any way to get them into FCP as 2k? do I need to use a separate program?

Thanks,

-Sara

Yes, a separate program is the answer (and even donationware): get Clipfinder!

It can transcode faster than FCP anyway and it can scale to any desired size. BTW, it has the advantage of supporting newer firmware's color as well.
