Multiple R3Ds for one Clip

Hi all,

I'm beginning my post-workflow and I think I've settled on a plan of running all my footage through REDAlert for a basic RAW tweak and color grade, then cutting in FCP in ProRes (H), and finalizing in Color.

I've noticed that some of my RDC folders contain up to 4 R3D files. I know they are all important (maxed out at 2gb each, I guess). But which ones do I load into RED Alert? Can I merge them?

I'm new to the RED workflow, so the more elaborate an answer, the better.

Thanks in advance!

s.

It's automatic. OPening one opens them all.

I go safe and only open the one on the very top. Multiple R3D files are a concern though. Usually means very long takes and a greater chance of having to do and re-do the file conversions due to conversion failures.

- Two R3Ds are not an issue.
- Three R3Ds, be careful and keep an eye on it.
- Four R3Ds or more, check the conversion every minute of it (good chances of the whole thing stalling).

Thanks. The only thing that is really confusing me is which file to process through RedAlert. They all read a little different. How do I manage them in a RedAlert workflow?

Process the first one as Stuart says- that will keep things consistent.
