Shot on red - edited in FCP - now coloring...BUT...

Here's the situation...

We shot our film on Red (back in build 17)
Transcoded with window burn
Edited in FCP 6 - ProRes422
Everything went great. We are done and now have to master.

Now... We were planning on conforming the final edl - using clipfinder, crimson, monkeyextract or one of these programs. Basically going back to the original r3d files. My question is...

Can I actually not do that conform - will the new FCP/Color read my current ProRes422 cut and reference back to the r3d files for coloring - from which I can make a new, clean, color corrected output - this would allow me to skip a step if possible right?

or

Do I have to take my edl, conform, re-output/transcode, bring back into FCP/color and go from there?

Any insights would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Sure there's a way- but it's not that simple. It's basically load your clips into Cinema Tools and create a new database. Then make that a source in Color and reference to your EDL.

Hey Noah - thanks for your response!

Would you be able to suggest how to do what you mention?

It's about 20 pages in my book. :) However I believe the red.com/support page has a workflow white paper as part of the FCP plugin for RED that outlines it as well.
