New RED Editor with timeline problem
on Aug 26, 2009 at 11:23:14 pm

I was brought on by a director to "clean up" his FCP editing of 14 sequences. Then I learned he was working with RED camera footage, of which I am a complete beginner. His timelines are all out of whack, with completely wrong settings, but all are fully edited and I want to curtail any extra work. Any way I can easily reset the sequence settings or reconnect the footage so that I can begin exporting XML files for Color and final renders? Any other pointers?

Thanks,
Parker

Can you give us some more info, please?
Was he using proxies or did he transcode?
What format and codec are the timelines set tp?
Are there any effects or speed changes?
What will be final delivery format?

You may want to get the book by Noah Kadner.

RED Digital Cinema REDCODE, 4096 x 2304, Millions
32-bit Integer (Big Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz

4096 x 2304 pixels

25fps

I'm pretty sure he transcoded because he has a bunch of Quicktime files in each folder containing an .R3D file or two. Any suggestions? Can I continue to edit with incorrect timeline settings and still render at full quality somehow?

Parker

[Parker Detchon] "4096 x 2304 pixels "

Final Cut Pro cannot handle files wider that 2048pixels

Did you explore the possibility of using other programs besides what you have? You could rent a session with a person who has "Assimilate Scratch" and get everything that you mentioned on your post, done very quickly.

Where are you based in?

Let me know if you need any assistance.
