Green/Pink lines over image when editing
on Apr 21, 2009 at 8:45:41 pm

Good Day,

I am cutting a video shot on Red. I imported the footage through FCP Log and Transfer, as ProRes HQ 422, and it all seems fine, until I start editing on a timeline. When I place footage on the timeline, it seems fine, it plays okay, but then it suddenly becomes green and pink and crazy looking and filled with lines.

I saw another post on this matter, and apparently others have had this problem. Someone's solution in the other post was to dump render files, another was to open another sequence and come back - all these work, but then the problem returns moments later.

Any ideas?

2 X 2.66 GHz dual core Intel
Memory: 4GB 667 MHz

About a year ago I edited Red footage that I converted to prores as well and it worked okay.

And which graphics card? Sorry, I'm in the dark here.
I've read about the problem, but never seen it here in one year since we own the Red.

I don't know, but it appears the problem is due to a bizarre frame size, 2048/1152 which results from taking in 16:9 Red material through FCP's log and transfer. I resized it to 1920/1080 through Red Rushes even though I will go through three more lifetimes by the time it's done. But the scan line problem does not seem to happen this way. SO far. I haven't started cutting yet, but when a couple of cards have come in, I will try again.

Conclusion: 2:1 a much healthier option than 16:9.

If you have other conclusions I would love to hear them, because this is borderline insane.

Have you installed the latest QT codec from red.com?

Have you repaired permissions?

What are the monitor settings?

Are you seeing this on an external monitor?

Does it happen when you use a preset window layout?
