R3D footage to 1080i50 DVCProHD keeping timecode???
on Feb 20, 2009 at 6:34:58 pm

Hi there

i'm having some trouble converting my red footage to DVCProHD 1080i50 for use in my
timeline (editing mainly DVCProHD footage on a G5)

If i use Red Rushes or Red Cine (on my macbook pro) it keeps the timecode but i can only get the option to go to ProRes or DVCProHD 720p etc
If i use compressor it loses the timecode and gives all clips a 1 hr timecode.

Any ideas or do i have to just go ProRes (which isn't actually too bad - green bar (preview) renders only)

Or am i being a complete idiot and missing something obvious?

My only question would be why are you going to interlace perfectly good progressive footage from the RED.

Just for my own ease of editing with all my other DVCProHD interlaced stuff during the offline really.

Will still go back to the original red media for the online and will let the post house deal with interlacing it ready for broadcast.

As it happens converting to ProRes for the offline and using it in the DVCProHD timeline seems to work fine - no rendering required with RT unlimited so it's not as much of issue as i thought it would be.

Cheers though.

I agree with David. You should maintain progressive all the way and go interlace at the very end - only if your deliverable requires it.
