Using a dual 2.5 Powermac G5 and need to know if it is even feasable to import and edit RED footage. I have drive with me with all of the footage and I am trying download RED's software, but none of it will open...PLEASE help. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Its only for intel Macs. Your only hope is to get someone with an Intel Mac transcode your footage to something like ProRes. Edit with that.

Longer answer.

Encode R3D on an intel based mac to a codec that can be used on a G5 (ie: DVCPRO HD 720) and the RED footage is great on an old G5.

trick is the G5 WILL NOT read the r3d footage.

What about the Quicktime previews (F,H,M,P) that correspond to the R3D file? Is there anyway of using them on a PowerMac (non-intel)?

I need to bring the 2K Quicktime file into AE, but have the same issue of not being able to view the footage!

NO
NO
NO

The reference QT needs to be decoded from the r3d on the fly. You can not watch any r3d on a NON intel mac.

Period.
