Just ProRes 1080P files......help
on Aug 9, 2008 at 3:15:38 am

I followed this advice from another poster needing to
go from Red to HDCAM.

I have a similar situation, I just need 1080P files from
2k files.

I have tried to get this to work in Redcine
but all I can successfully do is 2k DPX. I would like
to skip that step.

"This is what another poster did to get it to work:
Take the footage into RED alert. Do the color correct. Render out QT movies using ProRes codec. Leave "crop" unchecked. Check "Scale" and set the width to 1920, the height to 1080. "Fit/Stretch" should be set to "Fit Height" to preserve aspect ratio."

I did exactly this and when it finished, all I end up with
is an 8k file sized quicktime with nothing.

This is running on a mac book pro.

Am I missing something?

If there is a way to do this with redcine I'm all ears.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I convert all of my footage to ProRes 1080p in Red Cine and it works great. You need to have FCP6 installed on your computer. RedCine relies on installed codecs to convert.

I have it on full.

For 1080p output:

Low or Medium detail
detail set to 50
Noise reduction set to off.
Quicktime ProRes HQ
1920x1080
SInc filter
Process: Standard
Quality: Normal

For standard process, be sure you have the view set to 1/2 res high or your renders will take forever. Also, make sure you select the correct framerate time base. The program defaults to 24fps. I typically shoot most of my stuff at 23.976. If you don't set the proper frame rate, your renders will fail.

All of this is in the manual... when Red decides to publish it.

on the detail setting, does putting on high
make no difference from medium?

I'm curious why you chose SInc instead of Lancos for the filter.

UPDATE: it looks like Lanczos tries to be more like sinc but sinc is the most/best desired resampling.

thanks very much for your input.
