I have Great news from MAGIX!
on May 26, 2016 at 5:47:46 am

As many of you know, I am a long time Vegas Pro user from Vegas Video 3. I am also the developer who, along with Douglas Spotted Eagle, has created all of the script plug-ins that VASST makes for Vegas Pro (e.g., Ultimate S Pro, Caption Assistant, ScatterShot 3D, GearShift, Fasst Apps. etc.). I also developed Vegas Pro Production Assistant which carries a Sony logo so, as you might imagine, VASST and Sony have a close partnership going back to the Sonic Foundry days.

During these years I have become friends many of the SCS staff and I was speaking with Gary Rebholz about what he’s up to and he has agreed to allow me to share some key points from that conversation with the Vegas Pro community:

I am happy to share with you that Gary Rebholz has accepted a position with MAGIX as the Vegas PO leading the effort. They have a small team of experienced Vegas developers on board, so there is domain knowledge along with several direct connections back to Sonic Foundry. In other words, he has a team that knows and loves this software! ;-)

According to Gary, MAGIX intends to develop Vegas Pro into the future. MAGIX is a software company--not a hardware company trying to also do software--so they understand software development, and future Vegas development will not be as greatly hardware driven as it was in the past few years.

Gary said that MAGIX is currently looking into how they can continue the great Vegas Forum community and want to place a new premium on user feedback and input.

I take all of this to mean that Vegas Pro has a bright future with MAGIX and you can stop worrying. Vegas Pro has truly found a new home with a company that is serious about delivering quality software that is driven by user feedback. You couldn't have asked to be dealt a better hand.

I’m thankful to Gary for allowing me to share this news with the community instead of asking me to keep it to myself (under NDA).

You can view it as the shape of things to come. You now know as much as I do. (...but I know you will speculate anyway) :)

Cheers,

~jr

That are great news Johnny, and it is wonderfull to have Gary again on board to develop Vegas further. And off course also some of the experienced developer.

Some of you may know that I have not only used Vegas since Vegas 4 been one of the co-founder of the German Vegas forum vegasforum.de and that we have today a living German Vegas community in my forum videotreffpunkt.com. I have also been acting as betatester since Vegas 6. In a first email contact with one of the topmanagers of Magix I have received also the impression that there is the strong intention to continue with the development of Vegas, and find back to the old spirit that Vegas had in the past.

All together that are great news even if we have to understand that it may take some time to organize all the necessary points, as usual after such an akquisition of a bunch of for Magix new products. So the community will have to be patient at the moment.

Kind regards,
Wolfgang

[Antonis Rozakis] "thats good news.."
Spectacular news indeed.

Not just the content, John, which is heartwarming, but that Gary must have been given the permission from MAGIX to make this news public. So, in this new dawn of openness, it would appear, dearest VegHeads, we are going to be knocking on an opening and opened MAGIX-Agenda Portal.

I truly look forward to being once more involved with any future BETA developments for VEGAS-MAGIX (or what ever it is to be called . . . . ) - I'm rolling up my sleeves in anticipation!

YES! That is the most important point of all. MAGIX seems to be very customer driven. This is good news.

Magix support team seems very strong and probably quite a lot of people, and very responsive on any social media.

Even on Amazon.com, they reply any 'bad review' or question on the Magix's product.
Here's one example: http://www.amazon.com/MAGIX-Movie-Edit-2016-Plus/product-reviews/B015PIIGQ6...
Look for 1 star review, and you will see one reply comment by Magix Support team.

When I also share the Magix post from their Facebook Fan page (https://www.facebook.com/MAGIX/) (https://www.facebook.com/setiawan3d/posts/10153773184092637?pnref=story), they 'like' my post. None usually doing that. Even it is extremely tiny factor, but the effect quite huge (to me).

Similar to a recent poster I was just about ready to fall out of love with SVP and move to ...... (Still undecided).

I've long been concerned that Vegas Pro is not actually the best program for my needs - could you advise because if it's not the correct program I won't fill up the feedback page - it could just be that I should be using software that has a different purpose.

I have no formal training (other than John and Cow Forum!). I was taught by my predecessor who was taught by her predecessor. Back then, nobody streamed content and everybody used DVD players. YouTube may have been around but blocked from access. vegas was used purely to cut out surplus/unwanted footage and architect to caption and burn to DVD.

Nobody wants dvd's anymore. Architect exports very few formats as far as exporting subtitles goes, plus I usually lose my colours, positioning etc. so, .ive been trying to change this workflow to one program only -Vegas pro 13.

My job is to:
1. Produce transcript.
2. Synchronise into captions.
3. Provide footage back to requestor, with captions burned in (open) .

I do not play with any with any of the technical aspects of recolouring or touching up people's footage. I generally render to mpeg2, MP4, pal formatting.

Vegas doesn't burn captions in.
Vegas doesn't display the captions in preview window after the first one (ie does not refresh). (Recent upgrades haven't fixed this.
I bought vegasaur us and converted captions to text boxes (so I could burn in) however the text wasn't as crisp as captions. It looks blurry. Tried various rendering suggestions from here.

I trialled caption assistant which was very helpful with the making captions side of things however at around $600 aud I could buy a whole new suite of software for that so trying to understand if Vegas really is made for this workflow.

Vegas DOES export captions to various formats meaning handbrake & YouTube can read them. But then I'm just re-burning in handbrake to burn captions in, seems like double-handling, plus I can't burn in handbrake without a kind of 'shimmer' happening on captions (frame rate?)

I like Vegas and architect due to being able to synchronise precisely to the audio by lining up with the audio wave. Free programs like mac caption and subtitle workshop aren't as flexible for synchronising however they are great for exporting in various different formats for other programs to read.

I realise Vegas is not purpose built for captioning and wonder whether to continue trying to workaround it, whether to purchase caption assistant, or whether I am on the wrong track altogether and should be looking at different, purpose built, software. I use PC and laptop, no Mac.

Thanks.

I tend to agree that you're using the wrong tool. Vegas Pro doesn't create open captions. Caption Assistant is for creating closed captions with Vegas Pro so it won't help.

Your best bet is to look for dedicated captioning software like Telestream CaptionMaker. Your only challenge is that most of those tools are designed for the Mac (but there are some for Windows like Telestream) and cost $1,000 +.

If you want to work with captions in Vegas can I suggest you buy a copy of Vegasaur. It is third party software that offers a load of great new features to Vegas including Captions. It is fantastic. It will allow you to import caption files (e.g. SRT), specify the font, format, etc and basically do everything you need very quickly and very easily. I had a project that required extensive caption work and I did a ton of research tring to find some software that would make the work easier for me. In the end, Vegasaur offered everything I needed and I couldn't have been happier with my purchase. As I said, you also get a ton of other useful tools and features too. Check it out at http://vegasaur.com/Vegasaur. You are free to test it out before deciding to buy. Just to clarify, I have no ties with Vegasaur at all.

One other thing: after I had tested Vegasaur and found that it was perfect for my subtitling needs, I was hesitant to purchase because of the $99 cost. I don't think it is expensive if you make use of all of the tools and features that Vegasaur offers but I really only wanted it for its subtitling tools, so I emailed them to see if they did a cheaper version that only had the subtitling tools that I needed. They emailed back to say they didn't but they also gave me a discount code which gave me 50% off the whole package. I couldn't believe it! As it has turned out, I now use Vegasaur for a number of its tools and it is one of the best software purchases I have ever made. I can't imagine using Vegas without it now.

There is a YouTube video created by someone that shows you how the subtitling in Vegasaur works -

Hi John
I do highly appreciate the way you inform the fan club () of Vegas Pro about the status. Whatever happens, I am glad the signs are directing in a v I v I d Vegas Pro. It might be even named: Magix-VP.
Even though I only joined the SVP onwards of SVP 9, and I am still an amateur on the learning curve, I am convinced, that this a great software. I love it!!!! One of the strength is also the COW forum with straight forward answers and helpful support. And you are one of the exponents keeping this forum very much alive.
Thanks John!!!

This is WONDERFUL news!!!

I was just coming to this forum to share the email I received earlier today. It reads:

Hey,

As you may already know, Sony Creative Software sells Vegas Pro (and other applications) to MAGIX Software

We believe that this is good news for all Vegas Pro users!

MAGIX promises to support all current users of the Sony Creative Software products being acquired.

In a press release announcing the acquisition, Magix CEO, Klaus Schmidt, said, “These products from Sony Creative Software are the perfect addition to our portfolio,” adding that the goal is to release updated versions of Vegas Pro and Movie Studio later this year.

Kind regards,
Vegasaur.com

Now, John, is there someplace on the MAGIX website we can go to give our input on what we'd like to see in the upcoming release?

Or, do YOU have their ear? If so, can we forward things on to you to pass along to the developers at MAGIX?

Thanks for sharing this awesome news! I was just about ready to fall out of love with SVP and move to FCPX, but I think I'll stick around!

Ron, currently we are listing whole wishlists on one thread in SCS Forum:
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/showmessage.asp?messageid=945282

Eric Dettman (user MAGIX_Eric D) and Gary Rebholz (user GaryRebholz) have noticed and backlogging all of them.

Magix community forum is http://www.magix.info, and some of us have visited it, but must admit majority of us felt the forum look 'old', slow, and 'narrow'.
Not like SCS Internal forum or this (CreativeCow) forum (or even http://www.hitfilm.com/forum) which are simple look.
(discussed about the forum issue too in separate recent topic: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/showmessage.asp?messageid=945099...

No idea yet for the future place of community forum.

[Ron Whitaker] "Now, John, is there someplace on the MAGIX website we can go to give our input on what we'd like to see in the upcoming release?"
Not that I know of. A new feature thread was started on the internal Sony forums. Gary Rebholz has posted on Sony's Vegas Pro forum and Eric Deetman has posted here (Greetings, From the Vegas Team) on the COW. Those are the people you want to reach.
[Ron Whitaker] "Or, do YOU have their ear? If so, can we forward things on to you to pass along to the developers at MAGIX?"
Please don't forward request to me. I don't want to be in the middle (nor should I be).

YOU have the ear of the Product Owner, Gary Rebholz, right here on the COW. Start a thread with your requests and I'm sure Gary and Eric will be reading it and possibly commenting on it.

This is NOT Sony Creative Software! They were unfortunately muzzled by corporate lawyers from Sony Japan.

This is MAGIX!!! They are here on YOUR forum and you can talk to THEM directly. It's a WHOLE NEW WORLD!!! :-D

Sweet! I haven't used Samplitude much in many years because I've been more focused on real time stereo recording and video editing in Vegas but I'm in the process of re-organizing my studio and getting all the hardware more integrated with a better work flow so I can start composing more seriously and doing multitrack recordings again so I'm hoping there will be some cool integration of Samplitude and Vegas in the near future too! :-)

They are currently determining what to do about forums. SCS has given MAGIX a copy of the current Sony forums and user information. I guess it's up to MAGIX to figure out what to do with that now. There is already a thread on the internal SCS forums about feature request. Feel free to start one here. The MAGIX development team reads these forums on the COW so you have their ear right here.
