You can read about it here:

Magix aquires Sony's Video Editing and Music Software Portfolio

This is incredibly good news when you think about it...

Sony Creative Software was a staple at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show. They were there every year. People couldn't wait to go to the huge Vegas Pro User Group Meeting on Monday nights. Then last year, there was no User Group Meeting at NAB and speculation that Vegas Pro development had been put into "maintenance mode". Then this year, there was no Sony Creative Software at NAB at all. Let's face it folks... it was the end of SCS. (very sad indeed)

We have all seen what happened to ACID Pro 7. Sony stopped development 5 years ago and they are still selling today in 2016 when it hasn't been updated since Jan. 6, 2011 !!! That could easily have been the future for Vegas Pro.

Now we know that Vegas Pro (and who knows maybe even ACID Pro) have a chance at a future with a company (MAGIX) that is dedicated to building great multi-media software.

Vegas Pro has found a new home and will live on. That's good news any way you cut it.

Let's not get too excited as yet.
No one really knows as yet the path Magix is going to take with
Vegas and the rest of the tools.

So i heard John, So i heard!... Well Vegas has found a new home.
Lets hope Magix doesn't treat this awesome gem of an NLE like
Sony Creative Software, who utterly and wholeheartedly treated
their software and their loyal customers like utter trash recently.

Can we get the name of the forum changed to "Magix Vegas" now?

Hopefully they don't dumb Vegas down too much, plus it would be tragic (for me at least) if my Vasst plugins no longer work.

I predict this forum will become the defacto Vegas forum.

A company like Magix, if they continue to develop Vegas, may be more active in supporting all formats. This could mean more native support of .MOV/Prores, and .mxf/Avid. It is in an NLEs best interest to support as many formats as possible, but each codec supported does represent a licensing deal and development.

Hopefully Magix will update the engine to support 8K, multiple GPUs, HEVC/h.265, and direct export of MPEG-DASH.

I wonder what will happened with the Sony Codec support like HDCAM, XAVC, and XDCAM? Do those just go with Vegas at the sale, probably not.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

I have sent an e-mail/message to the Director of Communications for Magix. Below is the message sent......

Hello Mr. Brock,

As a long time Vegas Pro user, I am thrilled that Vegas Pro has been "resurrected."

I am a member of Creative Cow Sony Vegas Pro forum ( https://forums.creativecow.net/sonyvegas?age=3 ) and for the past year or so, we users have been left in the dark over the future of this software. It's a shame that Sony didn't have the courtesy to inform its Vegas Pro users of a change in ownership. In fact, if you go into the forum and search the past history of user's frustration with Sony's support of the software with its users, it might be a relief that Sony has abandoned Vegas Pro.

I DO hope Magix will take into account, the current and future Vegas Pro users, and support us with answers to questions that Sony would not.

Also, having your support team monitor the above forum would benefit you and us users to keep "goodwill" and make the users of this software informed of questions and problems.

Regards,

Bruce Brent

I just received an e-mail reply from Magix based on the e-mail (you can read the e-mail Isent in my other post) I sent Magix.

The head of Public Relations sent me enough info to say they are excited to be associated with Vegas Pro. He also provided the name of the actual owner of Vegas Pro, but there's no need to post that here.

I did mention, again, that Magix needs to continually read posts here in this forum to get familiar with what we, the users of Vegas Pro, want answers to and take into consideration on what we want in the software that isn't in currently. I also asked that Magix not only read but post comments and answers in this forum.

This post does not imply that we all have to send messages to Magix to get answers right now, but hopefully, Magix reads this forum and they post comments.

Hi Bruce, thank you for sending e-mail to them.

Glad to hear their reply. I think Vegas now is on the right hand.

Love to see any representative from Magix can join here and have discussion with us.
