Vegas script that the whole planet needs
on May 21, 2016 at 4:03:48 pm

Hello,

Been using Vegas for a while.

But there is one function missing and I just can't believe there is no script for it:

The ability to automatically delete (not mute) all silences in videos, ie all video parts where nobody is talking = gone.

This is useful for pretty much everyone, in fact I cant imagine someone not needing this, it's like "copy paste" to me.

Why cant Vegas do this? Premier has a script called "awkward pauses" that does it.

I looked everywhere, even asked Vegasaur, doesnt do it.

Does anyone know a script like that for Vegas?

Hmmm .... A Script that will Audit your work and give an option to delete?

Never considered a script for such a feature before!
And by the way, the "Awkward Pause" script is not for
Premiere, it is only available for After Effects!

Not sure what you mean. You want to delete something that isn't there?

No, he wants to delete something that is there... silence.

He is looking for a script that will find all of the areas of silence in your video and cut them out. It's a very common task for videos that are left continuously running and you only want the parts that actually have something happening based on audio.

I did this recently in SForge for a VegHead. I used the CD Tool to determine low audio values, created Regions and had VASSTS Removal tool. It worked nicely.

In the Voice Over tool in Excalibur, I added the ability to use the "Blue Cat Peak Meter" tool to generate an envelope showing the volume levels and used that to determine "silent" areas to raise a music bed in those areas. It appears that effect is still available but is 32-bit only.

Why not just put a noise gate on the track? You can even automate the threshold if the noise is louder or softer in various parts of the cut. If it's to pass on to another app, just render out a clean audio track and send that instead.

[Keith Stark] "Why not just put a noise gate on the track?"
It's not about gating the sound. The silence indicates areas of the video to be removed. So you want something that will cut out the parts with silence.

John Rofrano is exactly right.

I need Vegas to look smartly at the silences in the soundtrack, and remove the associated video parts, so I can automatically trim out useless parts of my videos when nothing is going on (like im setting up the camera, adjusting something, memorizing a line I forgot, etc).

I just don't get why can't Vegas do this. Anyone from vloggers, to news makers, to whatever makers would benefit from this feature. You film anything, there are always those useless parts for anyone.

Interesting question. Here's a thread that may provide some useful info.

https://www.videomaker.com/forum/topic/how-to-remove-silence-from-a-video-a...

Go to the last post on that thread. The author recommends use of something called Cockos Reaper. Here is a screenshot. Appears to be exactly what you want.
