Sony Vegas Pro 13: Rendering and Track Issues
on Feb 24, 2016 at 2:05:47 pm

Hi,
I just subscribed to this forum to ask for your help. Your threads have always helped me with my Vegas problem, but there is something i just can't figure it out.
I'm not an expert of vegas, but I usually use it to make some videos for Youtube. When the video is quite simple, render times are not huge, but when I add some more things, it gets bad.
My rendering times are always huge, but this time is even worse.
I'm trying to render a video which has about 17 video tracks. Most of them are just gifs on the screen, but when it starts rendering the part in which all 17 are on, the rendering times become huge. We are talking about 15-18 hours to render a 14min video.

i'll add a pics of the setting on vegas, and also add my specs here:
i'm on a Asus Laptop, F550Z.
Windows 10
AMD quad-core A10-7400p, up to 3,4 ghz
Ram 8gb
HDD 1TB
Gpu: AMD Radeon R5 M230SERIES crossfire amd radeon r6 (I don't really know how it works).

Can you help me figure it out what the problem is? I think there are too many tracks to render at once, but i Don't know if i can merge them or how to reduce their number.
Hope I've been clear.

There are several things wrong that I can see:
  • Your project is set for 1920x1080 16:9 but your render template is 1140x1080 4:3. That will cause all of the frames to require resizing which requires a lot of time.
  • Your RAM Preview is set to 6000 out of 6091Mb which is starving your render. None of that memory can be used to render. You should set it back to the default 200.
  • Your project is set to interlaced but if you are just rendering images you should set it to progressive.
  • How big are the images? If they are bigger than 1920x1080 then they are being resized 30 times a second which requires a lot of processing. Also, if they are not using the entire frame you should resize them to the size you actually need to save time.
Finally your CPU is a very weak AMD which only scores 3,774 which is weaker than an Intel Core i5 and much weaker than the Intel Core i7's that score between 5,586 and 7,885 more than twice as powerful. So rendering video is going to be slow anyway on that CPU.

Thank you very much, your explanations were very clear.
So which is the best rendering setting, in your opinion? How much should it take to render that video, 14 min 1080p?

[Francesco Vaglio] "So which is the best rendering setting, in your opinion?"
What are you trying to deliver? Why did you select a 4:3 template and not a 16:9 template. The "best" template is the one that gives the results you expect. Were you planning on delivery HD 16:9 video? If so, use an HD 16:9 template.
[Francesco Vaglio] "How much should it take to render that video, 14 min 1080p?"
That's not easy to answer. What is your source? Is it all images? How big are they? What file type? Are you adding any FX? If so what FX? Are you using Motion Tracking or Pan/Crop to make them all display at the same time? There are lots of variables that contribute to render times.

I made some adjustment, but I realize it's gonna take a while anyway.
Now I'm rendering the two video tracks together first, then i'll add all the gifs and pngs (total 12).

One question: i have like 8 gifs on this video, and it starts slowing down when it comes to them. Is there any way to use gifs and make things faster? Maybe I should put the gifs as avi or something like that.

Are the GIF's animated? If not, just make them PNG's.

You are trying to process 14 tracks. It's going to be slow.

[Francesco Vaglio] "Yeah all animated :("
Yea well... 12 - 14 tracks of animation is going to take a long while to render without a powerful CPU or GPU. Your Radeon R5 M230 only has 528 GFLOPS of performance when you really need 1,000+ GFLOPS for Vegas Pro. The latest AMD GPU's like the AMD R9-390X has around 6,000 GFLOPs for comparison. Your laptop just isn't mean for heavy video compositing like this. All you can really do is wait.
