Sony DoStudio has been around for years and is in it's 4th release (i.e., DoStudio 4.0) so this isn't new.

It is aimed at Hollywood Blu-ray production with dynamic Java based menus and other interactive features most people could care less about.

Sony has certainly priced Blu-ray creation out of the general market. Considering that it has failed to replace the DVD, it really doesn't matter what they change for it. DVD Architect is fine for 99% of non-Hollywood Blu-ray authoring.

[Ken Bennett] "Dose this CovertXtoHD/DVD work with any NLE on WIN and MAC?"
I would wait for Steve to answer but...

From reading their web site it looks like a Windows only product that uses FFMPEG under the covers and their Customer Forum has complaints about it re-encoding everything even if the file is already Blu-ray compliant, deinterlacing everything even though interlaced video is Blu-ray compliant, and the re-encodes using a ridiculously high 40Mbps bit rate.

It also looks to be template driven so creating custom menus like DVD Architect doesn't seem possible. I guess as long as you like the templates that's ok. I used iDVD for several projects on the Mac and the templates where quite professional looking. In fact, they were better than anything you could have created in DVD Architect without a whole lot of 3D animation work. So that's not always a bad thing but sometimes customers want a custom look which wouldn't be possible.

If you look at the numbers for 2015, Blu-ray outsells DVD for nearly every major studio release -- on numbers alone. DVD occasionally does better on kids titles, reflecting the reality that the kiddies don't have Blu-ray players yet. No shock -- my kids got VHS tapes back when I got into viewing and creating DVDs.

Blu-ray can never exactly replace DVD, since every Blu-ray player is also a DVD player.

As far as creation goes, DVD Architect does most of what I want. It's powerful enough for most DVD needs, and since it's Blu-ray mode essentially builds that same DVD model in Blu-ray form, it's time efficient, since a project is 90-95% the same for both.

Are you sure that those are "pure" Blu-ray sales or Blu-ray+DVD combo sales? Because most of what I see in the stores now is a Blu-ray+DVD+Digital package which tells me that DVD is not dead or else they wouldn't be including it in the box with the Blu-ray discs to help the sales.
