.mov files working now don't
on Dec 27, 2015 at 4:17:28 pm

Hi!

I started a project a few months ago. I have 50 min done now and it took me lots of hours. The thing is that I have been using multiple file types, including .mov. It always worked for me, both audio and video, and rendering tests were ok.

Now, I was about to continue the project but .mov files are not working anymore. The audio is working, both in the project and in the rendered file, but i can't see the video.

I haven't done any changes in Quicktime nor any update in my software. I can play .mov files correctly on Quicktime, but they're not working on Vegas and I have a serious problem.

Thank you very much.

Vegas Pro is limited by how many QuickTime MOV files you can use in a project because it uses the 32-bit QuickTime for Windows API. I would render some of the QuickTime files to Sony MXF and replace them in your project media. That should hopefully fix the problem. In the future, don't use QuickTime files with Vegas Pro unless the project is very small with only a few files.

This continues to puzzle me, as to why in this time and age does
Apple refuses to make Quicktime 64bit!

[Steve Rhoden] "This continues to puzzle me, as to why in this time and age does Apple refuses to make Quicktime 64bit!"
What would be the business case to justify the development? Apple doesn't have any software that runs on a PC other than iTunes and there is a 64-bit version of iTunes. There is no need for a 64-bit version of Quicktime as long as Microsoft allows 32-bit applications.

What continues to puzzle me, as to why in this time and age does Microsoft continues to support 32-bit applications? Apple converted OS X to 100% 64-bit years ago so the Mac doesn't have this problem. Microsoft continues to proliferate 32-bit versions of Windows. I could understand Vista being both 32-bit and 64-bit but Windows 7, 8 & 10 should all be 64-bit only. So IMHO, Microsoft is directly responsible for this mess not Apple.

Dont agree with you on that point John, They do have a business case to
justify making it 64bit!... It is a staple part of the Windows Operating
system and offers many codec flavors for many users including the
professional editing world and charges for going Pro, They do have reason!

Its much easier for you to stand by your point, seeing you have now fully
migrated over to Mac. But remember, Windows is not dead, has a larger
user base and equally important as the competition, regardless of them
still supporting a 32bit architecture.
Options has their place!

Thank you. I'll do so. I hope I won't need to replace a lot of files, as the problem appeared with my last changes to the project.
