Best Render Settings YouTube
on Dec 5, 2015 at 9:08:13 pm

Hey, i'm a player with a really good PC and an awesome microphone, in the future, i think, i'll open a new gaming channel.
ATM I'm trying to find the best render settings for Vegas Pro 13.
I'd like ur help to find the best render settings wich can permise me to have optimal Video in 1080p at 60 FPs for YouTube (better if the results show a size of 1 to 1.2 GBs for a 15-20 minutes video)!
I await your response.
(I apologize if i said it bad, I'm Italian, trust me!)

I would start with the MainConcept AVC encoder and the Internet 1080-30p... template and change the fps to 60 and double the bit rate because you are using twice as many frames. That should give you a good start. Then tweak from there. Higher bit rates create larger files with more quality but bit rates higher than your source will not increase the quality beyond the source.

What do you mean about duplicating bit rate?
I mean, by how many Mbits to how many?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. It must be the translation between English and Italian. I can see where double could be interpreted as duplicate. ;-)

I said to DOUBLE the bit rate which means to multiply it times 2. So if the Average bitrate is 8,000,000 @ 30 fps you need to make it 16,000,000 @ 60 fps to get the same quality.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to publish Internet video at 60 fps. Most people won't have the bandwidth to play it back without stuttering so it will probably be choppy, not smooth, for most people but if that's what you want then that's how you should do it by doubling the bit rate.

John, the problem wasn't the meaning of duplicate, but the MBytes! By how many (in this case 8,000,000) to how many (16,000,000)!
Anyway, these settings permits to obtain a video of around 1 Gb for 15 minutes video?

No, I was giving that as an example. To get approximately 1GB for 15 minutes you need to use a bitrate of about 6,000,000 average. I would NOT recommend that you use 60p at that rate. Go down to 30p and you should be fine.

The Vegas Pro Internet 1080-30p template uses 12,000,000 average with 24,000,000 maximum. That produces a file that is about 2.2GB for 15 minutes. You will need twice that for 60p at the same quality. If you are looking a file size of about 1GB for 15 minutes I would highly recommend you use 30 fps and not 60 fps but render out a section of video and see what you think. YouTube is just going to re-encode anything you give it anyway.

Actually that's what Sony advises because that is how they set up their template. The bit rate needed is really dependent on your content. Content with a lot of colors, movement, and scene changes will require higher bit rates than content with less colors, movement, and scene changes. I would start with the Sony Internet 1080-30p template which uses 12Mbps and see how it looks. Increase the average bitrate if the quality isn't as good as you would like, or decrease it if the file size is too big but the quality is OK.

Hey John.
In ur site i noticed that you have done a tutorial on DNxHD codec.
I saw that, to render with this codec, i need to customize QuickTime 7 template, but i can't find it, can you please help me?

Do you have QuickTime installed? I can't imagine that Vegas Pro hides the QuickTime templates if QuickTime is not installed but I don't think so.

You might need to re-install Vegas Pro because I've never seen the QuickTime templates not show up.
