Sony Vegas trouble with certain MOV files
on Nov 11, 2015 at 7:19:02 am

Hi guys, novice here.

I've been looking at so many threads on here about certain MOV files not opening etc and had no luck.

A certain file I've been having trouble with. I'm able to import it into Sony Vegas but the video previews for about 2 seconds and then goes black screen (audio intact), then resumes normal playback about halfway through.

Attached media info and gspot info for the mov file attached.

The other .mov files I've been sent open up no problem and I've got no idea why this particular file is flickering like this.

Many thanks in advance.

I am not sure if this helps or not. But a while ago I was having the same problem. It turned out that the newer version of quicktime was causing the issue. I am using 7.7.6 and it works. Along with Vegas 11.

[James Cheung] "Attached media info and gspot info for the mov file attached."
If you want to post information you should cut and paste it into your post.

There is no way I'm downloading and opening a ZIP file from an unknown source on my computer!

Wow, that's a ProRes 4444 file @ 240 Mbps. Do you have a RAID array to handle the kind of footage? I'm not sure why your working in ProRes 4444 but it's probably more video than Vegas Pro can handle with it's 32-bit QuickTime support. ProRes 422 works fine in Vegas Pro, I've never tried 4444 though. This is definitely contributing to your problem. Do you need to work with that high quality?

Haha - It's just what I've been given. I've been given some other mov files which are ProRes 422, these load fine.

I don't need that high quality no. What's the best workaround for this?

I've used QT Pro to export it, what compression type would you recommend I use? or is this wrong?

Thanks

I would see if FFMPEG can recompress that 444 footage into prores422-hq format. Should work along with the other files in Vegas after that.

[James Cheung] "I don't need that high quality no. What's the best workaround for this?"
Buy a Mac! Seriously, you can't legally create a ProRes file with a Windows PC. You'll need to convert them to a PC friendly format like CineForm AVI or Sony MXF.

You can try FFMPEG as Aaron suggests but I've never used that.
