Mercalli 4 plugin
on Nov 9, 2015 at 12:11:06 pm

I purchased Mercalli V4 plugin for Vegas and it seems to do a terrible job as compared to the Mercalli V2 plugin. I'm using Vegas 12.
Anyone had this same experience?

Make sure to follow the tutorial video, because their recommendation was not as straight forward. You add the CMOS Fixer plug-in first in the chain and then turn off Rolling Shutter Compensation in the stablilizer plugin options.

http://www.prodad.com/go/prodad/_ws/mediabase/_ts_1443009336000/Mercalli_V4...

I normally use the standalone version to batch convert my son's soccer video and I upgrade from v3 to v4. I was able to get the SVP suite in the upgrade, so I have the plug-in version too.

I only purchased the image stabilizer plugin. Is purchasing the cmos stabilizer pretty much a must as well?
Thanks

I'm not sure, if it is when you compare it to v2. I had v3 SAL (stand alone version), so the CMOS fixer was one of the reasons I upgraded. You should be able to download the trial to try with your footage and see if it helps.

No No! You are so wrong Roger, lol...
Mercalli 4 is soooo much better and faster than Mercalli 2.
It's far superior in every way than the previous version. Maybe you are
going about implementing it all wrong!

Like you said, I must be doing something wrong. I'll look at that tutorial again that was suggested.
Thanks.

Do that, and fine tune using it. There are functional differences to its
previous version.

Hi Roger, never used V2 but I just purchased V4, and am having problems as well. strange thing is it analyzing great and looks fine in the preview but when I render the final video all of the stabilization is gone.

I dont really like their manual as in the link above. Looks like a translated version. They mention nothing about rendering the subject is "gone" and the word render does not even exist in the document. I have been searching all over the web to find what could be going wrong.

I have used Vegas for 10 years and never had probs with a plugin like this. If you get any info please post.

Well, at least now I know it's not just me that's having issues.
I use Vegas Pro V12. I'm wondering if it works on V13 and not 12?
I've put in a call to Mercalli but they have not called back. (of course)
I was really looking forward to the new version but as you said, the end result is shaky if not more than the original.

Exactly... Mercalli did nothing and even a few frames were worse. What can we do?
Hopefully someone on the forum will have the answer.
PS. I'm using the Vegas plugin and not the stand along version.

Yes, and as a note I noticed although the instructions said it required vegas 13 it found 12 and installed it correctly an showed up as a 3rd party plugin in vegas 12. I figured since they say it requires 13 it must have been a bug that it showed up in 12 and that is why it was not rendering correctly. Now I just spent another $200 to get 13 and am getting the same results as 12!

Here is another using a screen capture to show how good it looks in vegas

If it looks good in preview, but not when rendered, then you have another problem. Sounds like somewhere you are disabling effects. Make sure that you don't have all effects disabled in the little split screen preview icon on your video preview window. As an aside, it works perfectly for me. I would also suggest using universal rather glidecam.

So what you're saying is that it's no good for Vegas version 12?

Update: well, I am getting results.

First I had Bypass fx pushed so be sure to check that.

Next I bought vegas 13 to see if that was it but got the same results!

I went back to vegas 12 (even though the manual say 13 required) and deleted all the mercalli fx, then went back and added the mercalli fx reanalyzed and checked "match project settings" and saved as an avi and it worked, really good. So now I have to see if I can get results for the entire video.

So yes it works on 12

Update2 Looks like the trick for me was check "match project settings" on render setting. Now it's all good in 12 and 13

Hope this helps.
