Automated Dialogue/Speech Alignment feature in Vegas Pro/Sound Forge?
on Oct 24, 2015 at 4:11:56 pm

Hi,

Adobe Audition and Cyberlink AudioDirector have the feature "Automated Dialogue/Speech Alignment". Cyberlink says it "helps you to seamlessly align post-recorded audio to your video" and for Adobe "replacing the production sound with the newly-recorded audio [...] can be fixed in most audio post production programs by subtly warping the audio file to match the original clip, but that process is tedious and time-consuming, and often the results still aren't up to par. Luckily, there's a feature in Adobe Audition that will do all of that work for you with a few clicks".

Do Vegas Pro/Sound Forge provide similar feature to automate the process of aligning post-recorded audio to the original video? If they can't handle it, does anyone know if there is any plugin that works with Vegas for this purpose?

Thanks for info!

Carlos

No, there is no automation for this in Vegas Pro or Sound Forge and I know of no 3rd party plug-in that does this. You need to handle it manually which Vegas Pro does very well but it is tedious.

No plugin, like Johnny says, but just as easy. It costs around $200 - so it will depend on how much you are going to use it: Pluraleyes.

I purchased it, and it does exactly what you are talking about.

Click on the icon you've added to the Vegas toolbar. Your audio is taken to Pluraleyes, analyzed and aligned. You go back to Vegas, and all your audio is lined up.

Make sure you use Pluraleyes FIRST, because after you make other audio changes, it may not work. But, it is amazing how it does work...

I'm not sure that Pluraleyes does what he is looking for. I thought that Pluraleyes will align the audio but it will not keep it in sync over time. I believe Carlos is looking for software that will stretch the audio to keep it aligned all the way through. I could be mistaken but the links he provided talked about subtly warping the audio to keep it in sync. I don't believe that Pluraeyes is capable of that..

I thought that Pluraleyes will align the audio but it will not keep it in sync over time.

As I recall when it was released, the most recent version (3.5) of Pluraleyes "claims" it will do this, although I didn't upgrade. I have version 3.0 but still use the original v2.0 that is a plug-in for Vegas.

Oh OK. Of it will stretch the audio to keep it in sync over time then I believe that's what Carlos is looking for.

Even the older versions will work reasonably well if you simply break a long recording session into smaller segments making sure that the splits occur when there is relative silence.

Thanks all of you for the replies and directions!

Indeed I am looking for software which "stretch the audio to keep it aligned all the way through".

I have Pluraleyes v2 plugin in Vegas and I didn't know newer version of Pluraleyes could handle "audio stretch". I will take a look and see if the upgrade is worth.

Best,
Carlos
