How do you delete unused Time on the timeline
on Sep 29, 2015 at 10:34:11 am

The time in the timeline is too long. It's 40 mins long but i only need it to be around 5 mins long, resulting in a really big timeline. It has 35 mins of unused, unneeded time. It's a problem because when i need to scroll along in the timeline the bar at the bottom is too big, if that makes any sense

The timeline is only has long as the last piece of media that you have placed on it. There must be a piece of media somewhere on some track that is causing the tilmeline to think it is 40 minutes long. I would try View | Windows | Edit Details (Alt+6) select Show: Events and scroll to the bottom looking for an event that starts or ends around the 40 minute mark. Then delete it.

Another thing to try (bet you already have by now) is to leave and reenter Vegas and your timeline will be as long as your video. If you HAD a longer video and split and deleted the part you didn't need, the timeline stays the same as it was. However if you save, leave, and reenter, the timeline will conform to the longest (now shorter) video you have.

It would be nice to find a way to have the timeline fit what is currently on the timeline, but I haven't found a way to do that...

Would be great to have the timeline "adjusted" without restarting the project.

Double-click the bottom scroll bar.

For an accurate render setting, zoom out until you can see all the events in your project, double click on the longest event, then drag the yellow loop points at the top of the timeline to the desired render selection. When rendering, select "render loop region". You can also set the loop points by left clicking and dragging in the timeline where there is no event.
