rendered video pixelated/blurry/oversharpened
on Sep 27, 2015 at 11:14:56 am

So I've had a problem with Sony Vegas 13 recently where I will render a video and it will come out looking pixelated/blurry/oversharpened. I've looked around the web A LOT and after trying many different 'solutions' nothing has come from it.

I use DXTORY to record gameplays and at first they were fine, but all of a sudden one day it was bad quality. I have tried to figure out what i might have done to cause it to start rendering funny but to no avail. I have looked at many different tutorials on youtube about the perfect render and recording settings but all haven't helped. I've reinstalled both DXTORY and Sony Vegas, reset all the settings for both, and reinstalled the codec(s) for DXTORY( I have been using Lagarith Lossless Codec for all my videos).

I've thought it might be the codec but after uninstalling all other ones and reinstalling Lagarith I'm not sure.

I've thought it might have been YouTube's compression system but I know the problem lies somewhere between DXTORY and Vegas. The recorded clip on my computer looks fine, 1080p and such, but after importing it into vegas it looks bad on all preview settings.

So in summary I am at the point of giving up because it seems I have tried almost everything, but any help whatsoever on the matter would greatly be appreciated :)

-as a possibly useful side note, I also tried FRAPS to record and it gave me the same output of quality

You need to begin by providing detailed information--media properties, project settings, and render settings. Screenshots of these would be most helpful. Also an overall screenshot of your Vegas timeline would be useful. Without such detailed information, any suggestion would just be a wild guess.

You have given no information on the source file properties. The Windows properties panel gives almost no information. If you looked around the web a lot, you would know to give information provided by the free MediaInfo utility.

What I can see in the Windows properties panel is that the source file is 800x600 but you have project settings of 1920x1080 with square pixels. Increasing the resolution is not so much as big a deal as the change in aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9. Both are question marks.

Agree with Norm. Use either Mediainfo or the media properties window inside of Vegas. This one.

If indeed the frame size of your media is 800 x 600, there is little wonder that it looks pixelated when rendering at 1920 x 1080, especially given different aspect ratios. You can upscale, but it will look pretty terrible. The screen shot of your timeline is even more perplexing. There, your project frame size is 1600 x 900 at 128 bits which means that your project settings have been set to 32 bits rather than the usual 8 bits.

Good screenshots. Two things. On your project settings, change Full-resolution rendering quality to Best. And on your render settings, change frame-rate from 29.97 fps to 30 fps--just type it in. You never said--how did the new render look? Improved? Same?

The new render looked the same as always.

I tried rendering with your settings (change Full-resolution rendering quality to Best. And on your render settings, change frame-rate from 29.97 fps to 30 fps) and the result was the same. not sharp enough or possibly so sharp that it blurs and pixelated :/

Sorry that your problem remains unsolved. Since your media, project, and render settings seem OK, I'd suggest you re-render a short (less than a minute) loop region within your project that is showing these problems and upload to Dropbox or something (not Youtube) for others to have a look. If you could upload the same pre-rendered avi clip, that would be even better for comparison purposes. Perhaps someone with gaming experience could have a look.
