Boris Track Motion Text (or alternative)
on Sep 11, 2015 at 7:40:17 pm

I'm wanting to do some cool tracking motion effect. Mainly text tracking.

I downloaded Boris trial to text their track motion. Unfortunately, all the tutorials I'm bringing up seem to be dated. The interface for the plug-ins and name of various plug-ins seems to have changed. I'm having a hard time figuring out their text tracking setup.

I have SVP 13 w/ Boris 9.02 trail?

I'm looking through their online tutorials as well but honestly, I'm left clueless as to how the Boris Motion tracking system works.

PS. Any alternative plug-ins for motion tracking text would be awesome as well.

Unfortunately there is no other tracking plugin available for Vegas.
I really do love Boris tools, but honestly, using its tracking features
are simply a bit too tedious for me sometimes.
So i do most of my tracking in after effects built in tracker, very easy.

You should be using Boris Continuum Complete for Vegas Pro. It integrates right into Vegas and allows you to work on the Vegas Pro timeline like any other FX.

Watch my tutorial on Motion Tracing text. BTW, don't try this in the middle of a project. You need to do this in a separate project and then drop it into your main project as a nested project because Motion Tracking needs to be done from the beginning of a timeline:

Actually that's not the one I thought it was. :( I had a Boris TV video on the Boris FX web site on using Match Move but I dont see it there anymore. I think it got lost when they redesigned the site. You want to use the BCC Match Move plug-ins which is added as a Custom Track Composite FX on the entire track. Then you place the text on the track below to have it tracked to the motion. I'll have to see if Boris can put it up again.

Thanks John. Yeah I had watched a bunch of tutorials but the interface and plug-ins available seemed to be much different from what I downloaded in from the BorisFX website.

Got it to work :) Had a few difficulties though...

1. It messed up my track motion on other tracks in my project :/ Not sure if that's something I didn't set right in the track with the BCC track motion.

2. I also noticed it displayed an error screen on the clip if I tried to track motion on a clip farther in on the time line. Couldn't figure out how to get rid of that w/o making the track motion first clip in my project.

3. I figured I'd need to create a veg / separate project to track motion on each clip. Seemed the workflow was a bit more involved than I had anticipated. Or spend time to learn all the aspects of the software so I could more easily work it into my timelines w/o affecting other tracks.

4. I also was hoping it would match the zoom... so as clip zooms in it looks as though the text is flying past the camera. There's probably a way to do that?

Awesome software, not sure I'm ready to invest the additional time right now though to incorporate the match move effect into my work flow. Is there a dialog / setup that removes some of the extra settings? Then just uses the Sony text and all that instead of the Boris?

Yes, the best way to work with this is to use Nested Projects. That's why you had difficulty further down the timeline. You really need to start each motion tracing as a separate project and then drop the projects into each other. This is easier to do in other NLE's hat support nested timelines. Vegas Pro makes you nest the entire project.

Unfortunately no. You can do this with Final Cut Pro X and Motion which makes it a lot easier to use some of the more complicated plug-ins but Vegas Pro has no way of limiting the parameters like that. :(
