can't render project
on Aug 23, 2015 at 12:17:42 am

i'm using sony vegas 9.

trying to render hour long movie in 1080. error occurs.

i render into small segments but video joiners make the video and audio not synchronized by a couple frames.

does any one know how to solve this or how to get a good video joiner that does not move the audio track.

even rendering the segments into one video with movie maker moves the audio by two frames.

You sure haven't given us much info to go on, for us to assist you.
And why in the world are you using and querring video joining software?
Forget about rendering in small segments, that's a waste of time.

What specific errors are you talking about and whats the render settings
and format you are rendering out to? Whats the format of the video you
have on the timeline? etc, etc, things like that.

Have you tried rendering to another format or tried disabling your GPU, need
more to go on.

when try to render the whole thing i get a message that says:

an error occurred during the current operation.
an exception has occured

i even get that message when i'm just working on the project in one piece. i have to split the movie into a bunch of 5 or 10 segments to work on it. meaning i have to have a bunch of different sony vegas files to work on it.

render settings:

video mode: CBR
format: windows media video 9
image size: 1440 x 1080
(checkmarked) override default compression buffer (seconds): 8
video smoothness: 90

target bitrate
internet/LAN : 6.4 m

i'm rendering out to wmv
source video format is wmv.

i can't render to any other format other then avi or wmv. the others are all poor quality or the just don't render at all.

sony vegas 9 HD platinum edition usually crashes on me when i'm working on projects. i always have to divide them into smaller sections.

how do i disable my GPU? i looked online but there were no answers.

If you need to render many small segments, simply bring the rendered segments back into Vegas, place them on the timeline, and render the whole. Use an appropriate intermediate file format for your segments.

It is not clear why you are not using Vegas to render the entire project. Are you encountering an error when you do that? If so, what is the error?

i have tried to bring the segments into sony vegas an rerendering them but i still get an error.

what is an appropriate intermediate file format for my segments?

i encounter an error if i have the whole project up in one timeline. i have to split the project into several 5 or 10 minute segments.

the error says:

an error occurred during the current operation.
an exception has occured

i have split up most projects i work on.

Can you post the media info on your source media? - http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

Then screenshot your project setup, and list any FX you are using on the media?

You can disable your GPU under Options > Preferences > Video, but you say you are on VP9. GPU was included in VP10, so there is no disable in VP9.

In a simplistic approach, use the match media icon on the Project Properties. Then Render As to a wmv profile that has an = next to the profile or matches the project properties. I would attempt rendering to an XDCAM profile, just to see if the render completes without fail.

If you need to render to .wmv vs .mp4, modifying a profile to make WMV render to 10Mbs or 20Mbs, or change to Quality VBR and the bitrate will be optimized for content. WMV is just VC-1 or VC-3, or in other words MP4 inside a WMV file. AVCHD could be considered VC-4. You could do the same process and render to .mp4 changing the profiles to roughly the same bit rates.

i don't have "match media" in my project properties.

i don't have a XDCAM profile in "save as type" in "render as"

main concept mp4 only lets me do 640x480 and 320x240
fraunhofer AAC (mp4) only does sound.

I think I would upgrade to the latest Studio release. My impression is that Studio is relatively inexpensive to start with, and, therefore, is probably not terribly costly to upgrade. It is simply not worth all the time and effort you are spending to get an old system to work. I don't have Studio, but you can probably use the latest version on a trial basis to see if it solves your problem.

BTW, what are your computer specifications in terms of Windows version, cpu, speed. memory, hard drive, and that sort of thing? I hope you are at least running Win 7.

Once you upgrade, if all else fails, you can get tech support from Sony.

Its been a long while since I have seen the VP9 render as panel. Most codecs will allow you to go in and create custom render size, and save that setting as a new preset. If I remember right the XDCAM support was not to .mxf, but stored it in a .mp4 container. Can you post some screen shots of the render as window? VP9 according to wiki was the 1st version to fully support xdcam. Are you on the last build?

Based on the footage info you posted, make your project settings 1440 x 1080 @ 23.97FPS, square pixel aspect ratio. Then create or use an equivalent WMV profile that matches 1440x1080@23.97FPS, square pixel, and bitrate of >10mbs. You can also enable the Quality VBR mode, and WMV will auto determine the bitrate.

Your source material is only 6Mbs for a 1080 material, that is less than what YouTube runs at for HD content. Generally you want to be at double or quadruple the bitrate for editing.

yes i'm on the last build

"Generally you want to be at double or quadruple the bitrate for editing."
what does that mean?

is my footage not full hd?

i tried to render in the settings you gave me but it still crashed.

if i upgrade to a new sony vegas will i still be able to open this project in it?

"Generally you want to be at double or quadruple the bitrate for editing." - what does that mean?

Normally when you record your source material, you want to record at >10Mbs for HD .mp4 or in this case Windows Media. Like I said before WMV is just a Microsoft version of .mp4 with MS audio.

How you capturing your source media to edit?

"Is my footage not full hd?"

According to Media Info no:
Bit rate : 6 519 Kbps
Width : 1 440 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 4:3

Frame rate : 23.976 fps

1440x1080 is considered HD but in a 4x3 aspect ratio matching older TV sets, the older square sets vs. typical HD 16x9 ratio. If all your footage looks stretched vertically, then changing the Pixel ratio can correct the footage to 16x9. The original HVD captured in 1440x1080 with a rectangular pixel, that later played back in a 16x9 ratio. True HD is 1920x1080 with a square pixel. Media Info is seeing the footage marked as 4x3.

i tried to render in the settings you gave me but it still crashed.

Does it crash in the same place? Have you tried muting tracks and test rendering, maybe bypassing the effects or uncheck or disable the effects on the footage? Trying to determine where in the footage or effects the error is happening. Could be a corrupt spot in the media stream that vegas is not doing well with.

You could try using "Sony AVC" and a profile that matches your project. Also maybe try rendering a test to .avi DV Profile, in attempt to rule out a WMV issue.

"if i upgrade to a new sony vegas will i still be able to open this project in it?"

The new Vegas will read the old file, but save to a new format that VP9 will not read. You can try the trial version of either Movie Studio , Vegas Pro, or Catalyst Edit. You will still be able to open the old version of VP9, just make sure to not save over your original file if you plan on going back.

If you can then, upgrade to the new version of Vegas Pro.
Your files will still be able to open, but as Aaron mentioned,
do not save over the files if you planning on going back to Version 9.
Doubt you will have much of the issues you are having now.
